I am proud to partner with iTrackBites to bring you this review. While I was compensated for my time, all opinions are my own and I was not paid to publish positive comments.
Happy New Year! January is a time to reflect on your desires and goals for the upcoming year and those often include food centered resolutions. Instead of turning to the latest unsustainable fad diet that eliminates whole food groups, how about focusing on including healthier foods and improving lifestyle habits with the help of a supportive community? The newly updated iTrackBites health and fitness tracking app (IOS and Android) has been redesigned to better empower people to make meaningful changes to their diet and lifestyle.
As a registered dietitian specializing in weight management, I value every tool in my arsenal to help people find the appropriate approach to meet their personal needs. And I'm not alone. The majority of dietitians agree health and fitness tracking apps help consumers make healthier choices, count calories, lose weight, increase exercise and change their lifestyles. In fact, in a recent survey of 466 registered dietitians, over 94% agree that health and fitness tracker apps increase weight loss success, while nearly 90% agree these apps are easier to use than a traditional food journal. Also, over 91% of RDs agree health and fitness tracker apps enhance the success of nutrition counseling with an RD.
I feel it's really important to test products and programs I recommend for my own clients, so I was happy to take iTrackBites out for a trial run. I learned a lot in the process.

How it works:
Enjoy a supportive community!
It's the only app of its kind that has a built-in community of motivated individuals working to live a healthier lifestyle. The added layer of comradery in iTrackBites allows for recipe sharing, motivation and accountability with each use. I joined a few discussions with some really supportive and well-informed folks who helped me get started pretty easily. No more waiting for a once per week meeting to have your questions answered!
Choose the weight loss plan that works for YOU!
The app is compatible with a number of other weight loss systems including Weight Watchers (WW), allowing users to track their dietary intake using food score value systems or calories.
You choose the program you want to follow and you can change it at any time. Each one focuses on slightly different goals like limiting sugar, watching carbs, focusing on portion control or simple calorie counting. I chose the BITES Flex which is based on calories, sat fat, sugar, protein and includes 200+ additional zero bites foods like fruit, veggies, lean proteins and more. Find any food easily or add it yourself:
When you type a food in the search bar, the first thing that comes up is your POCKET GUIDE. That is where you will find the zero bite foods if they are listed there. Below the pocket guide is the ONLINE section where you will find foods from the USDA database or branded items. Sometimes a food on the zero bites list won't show up that way on the search. If you would like to log it as zero, you simply toggle the "0 bite food" lever after you select it.

Upload your recipes or commonly consumed meals for quick logging:
As a recipe developer, I love that it's easy to upload your own recipes and save them for later. You can individually toggle each zero bite food added to the recipe for more accurate tracking. And it doesn't need to be a formal recipe. If you know that you often make eggs over avocado toast for breakfast, simply create a "recipe" and you won't need to log the items individually anymore.
My favorite part:
iTrackBites can scan barcodes for over 1 million packaged food products instantly which makes tracking SO much easier as well as simplifies the process for busy people on the go. And if the particular item you choose is not in the database, you scan the barcode and enter the nutrition info on the spot to save in your favorites for the next time. When recommending a health and fitness tracking app, the majority of RDs are most interested in ease of tracking foods, ability to scan an item's UPC code to track, and a comprehensive database that includes brand names, convenience foods and restaurant items. iTrackBites has them all.

Knowledge is power!
iTrackBites also allows to you to pick a secondary tracking method. I like using the Bites Flex to encourage consumption of nutrient rich foods, but I also want to know my total calorie intake. Let's face it, healthy foods still have calories. You can select a secondary tracking method of either calories or macros including protein, carbs and fat. It allows easy switches between the two, even within the same tracking day so you have access to all the info you desire.

It helps you stay balanced too:
Another feature I like is the check mark system which encourages a certain number of servings per day of fruits, veggies, proteins, fats, dairy, whole grains and water. The foods that show up in the search results with a green check mark count towards those daily totals. Of course, exercise is important too and there is a place to track your physical activity where the app assigns a bite value for your efforts. I choose not to add it to my allowed bites for the day just to keep things simple, it's up to you.

To be fair, it's impossible to include every conceivable feature in one app. My only suggestion would be to make it easier to track fiber and sodium content. You can access this info by adding the totals from each food you record throughout the day. In the future, I would like to see them as an option with the macros. I'm just detail oriented that way 🙂
iTrackBites is available for free with access to the Pocket Guide foods and the USDA database. If you have barcodes on all of your branded food, it's easy to manage. However, if you want access to the comprehensive database for restaurants and brand name foods, I suggest upgrading to PRO which is very affordable at approximately $2.99/month.
The all new iTrackBites app is available for download on the Apple App Store or through Google Play. For more information, visit iTrackBites.com and follow @iTrackBites on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.
